Hanoi, Oct 2024 – Ms. Ika Suryani, Coordinator of Regulatory Affairs at Responsible Care Indonesia (RCI), participated in the annual ASEAN Regulatory Cooperation Platform (ARCP) Workshop, held in Hanoi, Vietnam, from October 28 to 29, 2024. The workshop was attended by 35 in-person delegates and approximately 120 virtual participants.
This year’s workshop focused on key regulatory topics in chemical management across the ASEAN region, including:
- Regulatory Dialogue Sessions – Facilitated discussions on regulatory requirements, fostering a deeper understanding between regulators and industry stakeholders. Constructive feedback provided insights to improve operational processes.
- Chemical Management Policy – Strategies for managing chemicals, including Persistent Organic Pollutants (POPs).
- Circular Economy – Implementation of Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) and regulatory frameworks for sustainable waste management.
- Globally Harmonized System (GHS) – Quality control, verification, and assurance of Safety Data Sheets (SDS) in alignment with global standards.
Ms. Ika Suryani presented updates from the ARCP GHS Virtual Working Group (VWG), highlighting its efforts to harmonize GHS practices across ASEAN Member States (AMS). She also reviewed feedback from a regional survey on Safety Data Sheet (SDS) quality, conducted before the workshop. The survey results provided valuable insights into industry practices and approaches for ensuring SDS quality checks, which will inform future VWG discussions.
The key takeaways from this workshop, i.e., regulatory dialogue, chemical management policy, circular economy, and GHS, will be further explored with relevant stakeholders in Indonesia to enhance regulatory and circular economy practices.
