What sort of companies can become RCI members?
  • Companies in the chemical industry field based on government regulations or under the supervision of Technical Department/Department of Industry, like chemical industries; for instance fertilizers, pesticides, cement, and so on.
  • Petrochemical companies as based on government regulations or under the supervision of Technical Department/Department of Industry, like plastics, aromatics and so on.
  • Companies which use chemical materials as basic material for blending chemical products, like the paint industry, and similar industries.
  • Companies which support the primary activites of such industries in point 1, 2 and 3, like transport for hazardous chemicals, provider for safety equipment, and so on.
Is there a difference of status for these companies?

Based on the Company Charter, in RCI there is only full membership and associate membership. Members in point 1,2, and 3 are considered full members, whereas companies in point 4 are considered associate members.

What are the requirements of a RCI member?
  • Company has a true commitment to carry out Responsible Care® programs.
  • The company leaders (preferably the chairmain/CEO) understands and signs on the 10 Guiding Princples of Responsible Care®  adopted by RCI.
  • Company creates policies to enforce Responsible Care® based on the Guiding Principles of RCI, signed by the highest ranking officer of the company.
  • Company fills out the registration form.
  • Company has references/ recommendations from full members of RCI which have been active members for at least 2 years.
What’s the next step?
  • Payment of yearly membership fee
  • It is recommended that the company create a special organization (section, division, committee) to supervise all activities from a Responsible Care® code of ethics perspective in all work environments.
  • Companies may also join management in existing organizations (SHE units) by appointing a coordinator or someone who can supervise all Responsible Care® activities.
  • Support all RCI programs and activities and participate actively.
  • Carry out improvements and overhauls in Safety, Health, and Environment in all activities related to the code of management practices to reach maximum performance in Responsible Care®.
  • Formulate a concrete plan to implement Responsible Care® Code of Management Practices.
  • Company management should train employees for Responsible Care® programs through the continuous improvement system – PDCA (Plan-Do-Check-Action).
What is the basis of the Responsible Care program implementations?

      What are the “Guiding Principles of Responsible Care®” adopted by RCI?

      “Guiding Principle – Responsible Care®“ are the guiding points adopted by the association (RCI) to coordinate Responsible Care®  activities in Indonesia.

      As a member of Responsible Care® Indonesia (RCI), we strive to support continuous efforts and improve responsibility of businesses in handling chemical products. We vow to control our businesses to be in line with these principles:

      1. Respect and attention to the community’s worries about chemical materials
      2. Develop and produce chemicals which can be made, transported, used and discarded safely.
      3. Prioritize health, safety and environment in all product planning, existing and new, along with the processes.
      4. Provide proper information to officers, employees, customers, and the community regarding the dangers of chemical materials towards health, safety and the environment, and recommend preventive measures.
      5. Advise customers on usage, transportation and safe disposal of chemical materials.
      6. Operate factories and facitlies in a proper manner to protect the environment, and protect the health and safety of employees and the community.
      7. Expand knowledge by supporting research in effects to health, safety and environment of the product, processes and its waste.
      8. Cooperate with other industries to prevent problems of previous handling and toxic waste disposal.
      9. Cooperate with the government and other industries by creating standard regulations that protect the community, the work area and the environment.
      10. Develop principles of carrying out Responsible Care® by sharing expereience and offering support to whoever produces, handles, uses, transports, and disposes of chemical material.
